The Form School

The Form School is the oldest documented school of Feng Shui, and it focuses on the energy we can see — the physical landscape, the built environment, and the shapes that surround us.

When the external environment already offers favourable, protective conditions, the home gains a natural advantage. Abundant nature, fertile land, gentle hills, and clean water all contribute to high-quality Chi entering the space.

This school helps you understand how visible forms — streams and waterways, mountains, streets, neighbouring buildings, and the overall balance of Yin and Yang — influence the wellbeing of the occupants.

Inside the home, we study how furniture arrangement, colour palettes, materials, and spatial layout guide the flow of Chi. Classical Feng Shui masters recognised that certain forms draw in nourishing energy, while others can subtly generate tension or cause Chi to slow or disperse.

The Form School reminds us that what we see in our environment subtly shapes how we feel, behave, and thrive.

Classical Feng Shui showed me that our spaces hold untapped power. When we align with these ancient principles, transformation isn't just possible—it's inevitable.

Compass School

Compass School methods rely—quite literally—on the use of a precise compass to determine the exact orientation of a building. This directional reading is then combined with the time factor, using ancient mathematical formulas that allow the consultant to analyse the energetic patterns of the home.

Through this approach, we gain specific insights into both the current condition of the property and the energetic influences that have affected it in the past.

Flying Star Feng Shui (Xuan Kong Feng Shui)

Flying Star Feng Shui — or Xuan Kong Feng Shui — is considered one of the most powerful and enduring classical systems.
This method uses the compass to determine a property’s precise orientation and combines it with the year of construction, establishing the energetic “birth chart” of the building.

In this system, energy is referred to as a star, reflecting its capacity to move, shift and transform over time. There are nine stars in total: some are highly supportive, while others can be challenging if not handled correctly.

A consultant trained in this method can identify where each star is located in your home and show you how to activate the favourable ones while minimising the influence of those that are less beneficial.
To understand how the occupants interact with the home, we also analyse their birth data.
The combination of precise compass measurements and complex time-based formulas makes Flying Star Feng Shui one of the most insightful and comprehensive tools available.

Eight Mansions / Eight House (Ba Zhai)

The Eight Mansions system divides a home into eight directional sectors.
Depending on the property’s orientation, four sectors are considered favourable and four unfavourable.
Knowing where these areas fall — and how they impact different aspects of your life — opens the door to meaningful adjustments and aligned personal transformation.

Ming Gua (Personal Trigram)

Your Ming Gua represents your personal trigram — your energetic identity within the environment.
Derived from your year of birth, it reveals which of the eight magnetic directions are beneficial to you and which may hinder your wellbeing.

With this method, I can determine the best directions for sleeping, working, studying or focusing, ensuring that your daily activities align with the energies that naturally support you.

If you’d like to explore how these methods apply to your own home, you can read my detailed article on the most common Feng Shui mistakes.
You may also use my Ming Gua Calculator to discover your personal trigram and understand which directions truly support your energy.
