5 Common Feng Shui Mistakes in Mallorca Homes (And How to Fix Them)
Did you ever walk into a Mallorcan house and feel like something was “off“? Perhaps it‘s the dark corridor, the cluttered entranceway, or a bedroom that never seems peaceful. Feng Shui teaches us that small design problems can shut off energy (Chi), impacting your money, health, and relationships.
After years consulting across the island, here are 5 common mistakes I see—and how you can fix them.
Mistake #1: The Cluttered Entryway (aka “The Chaotic Welcome”)
The entrance is the “mouth of Chi” — the main portal through which energy, opportunities, and people enter your life. A cluttered entry creates energetic traffic jams and sends the message: “There’s no room for more.”
This is especially common in Mallorcan homes, where entryways are often narrow or used as makeshift storage.
Feng Shui Tips:
Store shoes in a closed shoe cabinet and place coats in a wardrobe.
Sweep the entrance regularly — energetically and physically.
Remove items that “push back” on the energy flow (like large furniture or sharp corners).
- Use a natural fiber rug (like esparto or jute) to ground the space.
- Add a small console or floating shelf for keys and essentials, ideally with rounded edges.

Add a small framed affirmation like “Welcome“, “abundance” or a symbol (like the infinity knot or mandala) to bless the entrance with conscious energy.
Mistake #2: A Mirror Facing the Bed
Mirrors reflect movement and light, bringing Yang energy—active, alert, and dynamic. But your bedroom should be a Yin sanctuary: quiet, restful, and intimate.
If a mirror is placed facing the bed, it can interfere with sleep and—symbolically even—open up space for a “third presence” in a relationship.
Feng Shui Fix:
Ideally, move the mirror to a side wall or inside the wardrobe.
If it can’t be moved, cover it at night with soft fabric.

Mistake #3: Sofa with Its Back to the Door

In Feng Shui, we always need a “Turtle” at our back—a solid support that offers protection and stability. When your back faces the door, your reptilian brain stays on alert, sensing danger, even if you’re just sipping tea.
This setup, common in narrow Mallorcan living rooms, creates unease and tension.
Feng Shui Fix:
Position sofas so you can see the entrance.
If that’s not possible, place a low mirror to reflect the door.
Add a solid piece behind the sofa (console, screen, or wall).
Your nervous system will thank you.
Mistake #4: Long, Dark Hallways
Common in historic fincas, long corridors can rush energy and create rushed, stressful energy.
Feng Shui Fix:
Add warm lighting every 2 meters (staggered, not aligned).
Hang calming landscape art—Mallorcan beaches work beautifully.
Use a runner rug or choose tiles that naturally slow the flow.
Add a trailing plant (like pothos), only if it doesn’t block movement.
A hallway should guide energy gently—not push it like a wind tunnel.

Mistake #5: Sink Next to Stove

In many small Mallorcan kitchens, the sink (Water) and stove (Fire) sit side by side—creating elemental conflict. This tension can disrupt harmony and drain prosperity.
Feng Shui Fix:
Place a wooden cutting board or a fresh basil plant between them to balance the elements.
- Keep burners clean and shiny—Fire must feel respected.
Water and fire need space—or a peacekeeper in between.
Even the simplest Feng Shui adjustments can create a powerful ripple effect in your home and life. Start with just one—and notice how the energy begins to shift.
